Company Mission and Philosophy

Bright Angel Bicycles is Grand Canyon's first "in-park" bike rental facility. We are passionate about bikes, passionate about people, and most importantly passionate about the park. Our goal is to provide a fun, safe, and effective service to travelers that will also help sustain the park's natural resources and lessen the impact of visitors on the park's environment.

The Guys Behind the Bikes

Wes Neal started Around the Bend Adventures, a day tour and hike business at Grand Canyon, after ending an 8 year career guiding river trips in Grand Canyon. With a growing family, life away from home on the river was getting progressively more difficult and he discovered that there weren't many other employment opportunities at the Grand Canyon that would keep him close to home. Since his love for this amazing place found him resistant to working away from it, starting a tour company facilitating day tours was a logical course of action to follow. For two years prior to Bright Angel Bike's conception Wes took tourists to the canyon and shared the love and passion he had with them. His experience with managing and leading Grand Canyon tours and day hikes helped him develop an intimate knowledge of the Grand Canyon's South Rim. After carefully surveying the area and gaining considerable feedback from visitors - it was logical that a bike tour service would be well received. It presented a unique, affordable, environmentally friendly way for people to experience the canyon. The prospect of owning a bike-related company at the company became a passion that he pursued in the hopes that someday the Park would allow such an operation to exist. In March of 2010 the park released a R.F.P. asking applicants to propose their plan to fill a temporary program for bike rentals that they had conceptualized. Wes promptly created Bright Angel Bicycles as a sister company to his other tour operation and along with the most qualified, passionate people he could gather bid and won the permit!

Kyle George entered as a managing partner to Wes early in the process. Years prior to the inception of Bright Angel Bicycles, Kyle and Wes who had spent years working together on the river, talked about operating a bike tour/rental facility at the canyon and had agreed that if such an opportunity ever arose that they would work together. Their friendship had helped them learn each other's strengths and weaknesses and the partnership was a logical and effective choice. Kyle brought his passion and knowledge of bikes along with experience as a business owner and guide in the canyon. As a photographer for several highly acclaimed publications (National Geographic, Men's Journal and more.) Kyle has spent years exploring and photographing this beautiful place. He also ran the river for 8 years and gained considerable knowledge about the Canyon. With a considerable interpretive background, a passion for biking and a keen awareness of the canyon and it's history - he was an ideal candidate to run the Bike Tour operation.
